Title: autobox woes 2!
Post by: mattyme on January 09, 2012, 22:30:18
my 300 tdi auto has a niggling problem. its been there since i bought it about a year ago so im not overly worried about it.....
however, when im accelerating uphill steadily it pulls as you would expect it to. but every 5 to 10 second the revs drop a little bit and the power drops a little bit too. it all picks up a second or so later.
ive looked for leaking vac pipes and unconnected solenoids etc. i found an actuator under the pass head light that wasnt connected so connected that again but to no avail....

anyone got any ideas? or do i need a new box!? lol

If your loosing power for a small amount of time it won't be your box, try flushing your fuel lines as there might be a small block somewhere and staving the engine a bit which would result in power & rev loss

Try emptying the sedimenter under your O/S/R wing.

   Has it solved your problem?

Do the revs drop when it happens (if you have noticed) and what sort of speed are we talking about. Is it regular?

yeah, the revs drop by around 500 revs and it is regular, every sort of 6 or 7 seconds....
it happens at most speeds, when going uphill and i kick down to 2nd gear i feel it, in 3rd with my foot down i feel it, on the motorway in the overdrive gear and going uphill i feel it too
i find if ive got my foot further down its seems more violent tho its still just a slight loss in power and revs for around a second then it comes back....
also, the cruise control doesnt work. its niggling me that these are related.

not tried the sedimenter yet. havent had time with work.

When was the fuel filter last changed, the RR does similar when the filter is starting to go, followed by a decrease in max revs.....

sedimenter emptied... no change
mass air flow meter cleaned out with brake cleaner... no change
turbo boost pressure sensor is obselete stock at landrover... helpful! lol tho no fault code came up tonight when i had the computer on it.
mass air flow meter... 517 quid at landrover trade price plus vat and hes never sold one in 15 years! lol
surely ive got to be looking at vac pipes... ill soldier on! lol

definitely sounds fuel related, is your low preasure fuel pump working properly, i think on the 300tdi it is a mechanical pump somewhere on engine block???

just an update... my kickdown is now stuck on but i havent had any of the revs dropping thing goin on while ive been driving it now.... tho changing into 2nd gear at 35 mph and 4500 revs isnt good!! lol

just an update to this topic... as it turns out it wasnt anything to do with the auto box, tho i still havent found out why the revs were dropping every 8 seconds when accelerating under load.
i have deduced that it was a turbo problem as due to being stuck in a very deep snow drift and blowing the turbo entirely i have fitted another turbo and the revs dropping thing has stopped altogether now.

so thanks all for your advise and me picking your brains but problem erradicated!! lol

mine is doing the same, its the turbo actuator stuck, so it ovverboosts and the ecu cuts fuel to save engine damage.
