Title: oh. I didn't see that coming.
Post by: lambert on November 18, 2013, 20:21:49
So it seems that accidentally I have managed to relegate the defender to the position of second car.  It all started innocently enough, I was merely borrowing the jimny till dad gets going again after the hip op but I have kinda fallen for the little scamp. It's quiet, warm, dry, comfy, has a decent stereo, runs on the cheap stuff and hardly sips it compared to the defender, its super easy in town. it could be a bit further off the ground but I still have the defender if I need that sort of thing.  So yeah it's not a bad thing.

The amount of time and money and effort put into that defender if it dares tricks like that it will be introduced to a book of matches.

the matches will just fizzle out on the damp carpet.

So  most of a month in and the best thing really is the heater, it is so nice being outside all day and being able to get in and be warm in 5 minutes rather than 5 miles in the defender.

Eberspacher diesel heater and a Defender make the best of buddies.

Was a tad cold today so for the first time this year I have set the heater in the defender to come on in the morning tomorrow so that'll come out to a toasty warm and dry truck.

Well this morning I came out to a still  frozen truck, with the heater showing a fault code.... so yeah... like I said... eberspacher and landrover make perfect buddies.

My FBH works - just can't let it run for the full 30 minutes if I actually want to drive anywhere (flattens battery!)

Same here, mine is quite happy to take the chill off the cab for 5 or ten minutes before, but the full half hour will leave me with a lovely warm place to sit (but not much more!)

I hardly ever use the timer to start the heater these days, rather use the remote control from the comfort of my bed.  I can leave mine for the full 30 mins if required, mainly when very frosty/frozen, but I do have a leisure battery to power it.  Good old Eberspacher gets up to temp and then turns the blowers on.  Nice and toasty when I come out to drive to the office ;-)

My eber can run all night/day on the aux Battery (have done so while camping often) but it's not the type that heats the water system.
