Title: Landy to Jeep
Post by: jay2578 on September 17, 2012, 09:53:44
So last September I got rid of the D2 as I couldn`t be bothered with all the problems associated with Land Rovers any more, and bought myself a `96 (N) Grand Cherokee that needed a bit of work to pass its test-

New rear shocks
New pads all-round
Clean up calipers and replace one piston, clean up disks and lines
CV boots

Mot passed in October

Since then I`ve replaced a few other bits and bobs-

Water pump
Radiator
Catalytic converter
ABS sensor
Wheel bearing
Ball joints
Propshaft UJ`s
Belt
MT`s

Not all essential, but you know how it is

I have to say compared to the disco the jeep is so much better!
No leaks (sunroof/oil/etc)
No Airbags deflating every other day (several 70+ mile journeys on the bump stops!)
Faster
So much more comfortable
Better stereo

So from experience (110 CSW, V8 RRC, D1 200tdi, D2 TD5), Land Rover is ok, Jeep is better!

I have just taken ownership of an (S reg) 2.5 tdi sport cherokee 80k genuine with only 2 owners from new
and although its spent its life mainly on the farm its Bl@@dy Quicker than all of the Landy's  i have owned
and comfortable too
so first impressions are impressive ( smile)

Took the Jeep for its first pay and play on Saturday and I was so impressed with its performance. Went everywhere the landys went and some, wading, deep mud, steep ascents and descents as well as some very severe stone steps.
And as a bonus, I done all that without any bits falling off the truck or banging my head or elbow!

It just goes to show that Land/Rovers are the benchmark when people who want to convince others of thier trucks ability come out with that old chestnut(IT WENT EVERWHERE THE LANDYS WENT ) ,how many times have you seen that??over the years i have owned just about every 4x4 out there(as those that know me will verify) and in my humble opinion
anything with a low box,a difflock ,and a set of ATs/Muds will go most places if the driver can read the terrain and actually drive the thing .

I had a 200 series 3 door 3.5 V8 disco that was on LPG and it was still thirstier than my now 03 Wrangler 4.0 (23ish MPG!) LOL
Defy the sheep out there and get what ever you like the look of and can afford to run. As long as YOU like it who cares what everyone else thinks! Thats my opinion anyway.

ATEOTD  NO  JEEP on earth can even come close to a new Rangie and when i say benchmark thats what im talking about !!,there is not another make in the world that can approach it only the british can build that quality into a car and unless you have driven one you wont begin to know what i mean, my sons new Supercharged Rangie makes a Jeep feel like a Lada.  :cheesy:

Jeep may have had the original gene plan but land rover evolved the concept to its fullest potential. That said land rover hating jeep is a lot like hating your mum.

I like the willys and I like the SJ , I like the LR Series Vehicles and I like the pre puma (pre td5 too i guess) Defenders - Rest of both Jeep and Landrover's range are just pap and of a different concept.

Hehe...dont get me wrong if that magical £140 million lottery win came in a series 1/11 would be in the magic garage.....so would an Evoque or latest Rangie.....that latter 2 for a couple of weeks anyway

Well what can one say ? the interior of that SRT could be a Kia or the like  and if you honestly see that Jeep as being at the top end of the market then you must have a low expectation from a motor maybe your used to 5 grand bangers and have no idea of what its like to drive a modern top of the range quality car, .

Well as i said at the start of this thread ive had a few J33ps and loved the Wrangler but parts/fuel prices kind of spoilt the J33p thing for me , now a derv Wrangler would be worth looking at but not that Lwb thing they offer now .

My pitch was half a soggy jaffa cake just by reading the JEEP bit, didn't get to the CRD.

So what's a CRD and why in particular is this 2.7 model more naff than the rest?   (hope the owner is not on here)
