Title: Just bought a EX MOD 110 Defender and its about to have a MOT !
Post by: Brian the Sn@il on September 14, 2012, 17:30:55
Well it nearly had a MOT.
I live next to a Grage and MOT station :)

Booked it in, drove it from my car park to the garage car park.
Had a shout out a bit later.

`We cant MOT it as its over 3 tonnes Gross ` ahhh !
So i now have to book it into another MOT station a mile downthe road.

I had the footwell welded today, and Off Side Axle oil seal changed. It should now pass :)

It had a new 2.5 NA Diesel engine fitted by MOD in 2008, but it does smoke a bit :(  might be the fuel or just need a good run , not sure.

Ive added a ARmy Shovel to the front wing ;) - as you do lol
and i have just a Split charge and spare battery from Paddocks that i need to fit after the MOT.

Next Mod has to be Power Steering !!!!
Im a member of The Norfolk Military Group so will want to keep it looking like a rough old Army Defender on the outside, but undernieth to have a bit of tech hidden away ;)

Hi Brian. Been a long time.

If they are trying to tell you it needs a Class 7, tell them to read the book. 110's are exempt.

Looks the bees-knees though!

Hi Steve, Grat to hear from you mate :)

The Plate in the engine bay says 3050KG Gross

So thay cant do anything about it :( I cant do anything either :(
I think its been uprated to the 110 Mini Bus spings or something like that as i know the 110 Mini bus folk have the same problem :(

Be seeing you soon on a green lane, you up for organising something for 2013 ? :)

VOSA have been threatening to remove the 'dual purpose' exemption for a couple of years. Last time I checked, they still hadn't done so.

Since the introduction of the computerised MOT system, the 'Dual purpose' exemption was due to be removed. Here is a good article:
http://www.glencoyne.co.uk/motclass.htm

So, if VOSA still haven't changed the rules, you only need a class 4 MOT. Obviously, if they have finally got their digit out, you might need a class 7.

Not really doing any green laning these days. Not organised, anyway. Just the odd lane when the mood takes me.

Just about finished the V8 swap in the 90..... only taken a year from picking up the block and crank  She ran the other evening, but wouldn't rev. Got to get the chokes sorted out to get it rich enough while cold. Then air cleaner assembly and exhaust to go on. Then plenty of tedious running in before going on the rolling road.

Yes passed the Class 7 no problemos :)

Got to insure it on the VIN plate then fill in the V55 form and try to get it Gross wieght changed to under 3000 KG and also make it a commercial vehicle as (PLG)
As it will be also used as a site vehicle.

Modification number 1 has been a Drivers side Side step , as its sitting high at teh back.
