Title: Classic rear bumper question ?
Post by: wizard on November 04, 2011, 10:17:41
I bought a new rear bumper and end caps for Mrs wizard's range the other day , when i took the old one off the plastic strip that runs from one side to the other is looking a bit worse for wear.
The question is where can i get a new one from ?

If you mean the dust seal (NTC7833) I think it's obsolete now, so I reckon it's the breakers yard.  I've found a few hard to find bits from Martin Toole on 07885399785.  He runs Range Rover Recycled Parts in Southampton, but he's post stuff out too

Betweem the bumper and rear crossmember? you can use rubber belt for that, but the metal strip is hard to come by as the studs are wlded on and had tatty metal nuts on the back.

I cleaned up the plastic part with a nylon scouring pad, looks ok.
I'll use a bit of aluminium flat bar to secure it in place.

If you use aluminium, I'd suggest bedding it down on some silicone or something similar to insulate it from the steel bumper.  This will prevent any (more) electrolytic corrosion between the bumper and the strip.  Compared to the rest of the motor, it's a small reduction in corrosion potential, but every little helps
