Title: Im after a 2000 Wrangler to convert to Military USA Vehicle
Post by: Brian the Sn@il on August 10, 2009, 22:29:31
Yes I'm after a TJ 2000 4ltr Manual  to convert to a USA Military vehicle.

The family loves to attend the military meets in the East of England.

I have looked at threads State side and seen conversions of TJs into military vehicles.

Has anyone done this ?

Best regards
Brian

US military didn't use 2000 Wranglers...

There is a production facility in Egypt which IIRC manufactured a specific LWB varient but now I think makes the JK Sarge military issue....please correct me if Im wrong.... these have Dana 60 axles and are not for public sale

Best paint it green and add some ammo cases....

You can buy flat fender wings from 4WD Hardware or Quadratec...

As for the mirrors and lights Id guess adapting stuff from the likes of Jeepparts

Have you got the Jeep yet??

Either way post on Birtys...some of the lads there will really help.. ;)

I have just joined Birties, many thanks for the info, i didnt know you could buy the Flat Fenders off the shelf :)

I havent bought one yet, im after that bargain.

1998 with the non Keyfob, ( grey ignition key)
4.0 and has to be a sport as the dash needs to be dark grey.
HAs to be a low miller, not bothered if it has a dent or anything like that.

GOt to be cheap as it will be pulled apart for a winter / spring project

can you not get another person or a group of like minded folk to do a group buy and import? You *should* be able to negotiate a discount for a group buy from the supplier and the shipping should not increase that much from the cost of shipping 1 and that price can be divided amongst buyers.

You might get stung for import duty and VAT. And if it arrives by UPS, they have a nasty habit of charging for 'customs clearance'

UPS hand over to parcelforce and it's them that add that clearance charge *gits*. It's unfair in the legal sense of the word, duty and VAT are fair enough, you win some you lose some but the charge is like paying for delivery twice. The tracking system is a broken machine also, many people who order from states track their parcel on the UPS system to find when it hits the UK and clears customs they get a message of 'failed attempted delivery, returned to depot' or simply they lose tracking of parcel totally. This causes quite a bit of undue stress to the unwary. What happens in reality is that the parcel is held in customs until the agent (parcelforce) pay it, and then the tracking continues to be then updated on the parcel force site and not on UPS . Parcel force will hold the parcel at a depot until any charges are paid. A letter is supposed to be sent to the customer informing of any out standing duty that is due but that letter can take over a week to get posted if at all - this is after the customer has read the 'attempted delivery' notice and hasn't a clue where parcel is!
Sorry for rant, I posted about it on my blog ages ago and sooooo many people have commented on the same issues. http://www.stonefisk.com/index.php/2009/02/26/parcelforce-aamp-usps-tracking-and-impor
