Title: Patrol
Post by: karloss on May 24, 2004, 18:09:57
Right you lot, I need some help. Father in law has a 3.0 td Nissan Patrol. 12 Months old, nice motor. It overheats. Normal running is fine. When towing a loaded trailer uphill with the boot down, it starts to overheat. It's been in to Nissan who say there's nowt up. Any ideas? Feel free to state the obvious.
Will be having a butchers tonight or tomorrow so any advice would be gratefully recieved.

Title: OVERHEAT

Well stating the obvious,
1. water level
2. cap and system not leaking, therefore allowing correct operating pressure
3. thermostat sticking, remove it and try again, on road going vehicle, dont leave out permantly.
4. fans working
5. blown head gasket
the number of things that can make a vehicle overheat is great, even fitting dirty great headlights on a A bar in front of grill, can prevent correct flow of air.
But 12 months old, its Nissans problem.
level, fans, thermostat, i always say, start with the blindly obvious, then work up. :?

Blimey, this is an old one. 2004!  Yes he did. The radiator was (quite obviously if you had your eyes open) blocked at one side with all sorts of rubbish. Cleaned that out and all was well. Nissan mechanics obviously don't need to pass an eyesight test before they get the job. They shoved a laptop on it and pronounced it fine. Took a real dimwit (me) to spot a mucky radiator!!
