Water in airbox again AAAARRRGGHHHH!
« on: June 13, 2005, 09:45:49 »
The air intake for my airbox is right behind the grill on my ZJ and everytime she even looks at a puddle its always the tale off coughing, splutering, and loads of white and black smoke. Take out airfilter, dry filter box out, and dont go near water for the rest of the day! I cant buy a snorkal for it as no one seem to make one so I wondered if you guys had any ideas how I can alter the airflow into the airfilter box so she doesnt suck in a river at 200 yards, lol.
Cheers.

Damn, I took the picies down..

Shove a pic of the air intake up and I'll have a look, might be worth talking to http://www.mountainjacks.co.uk/ as they could well have some ideas.

http://www.nsmspecialproducts.co.uk/links.shtml is another place to try (Steve Middleton).

If it's anything like the wrangler, with a "Trumpet" out that comes out the box then try turning it away from the fan (But keep it pointing slightly down.

TBH if you are getting the air filter wet, then you are probably driving too fast or in too deep water for the beast. they have quite a wading depth!! and it'll only blow white smoke so many times before you blow the engine!!!

Well i have looked everywhere on the net for a snorkel and it seems that Safari do one for the Wrangler, Cherokee, and everythign else but nothing for a Grand Cherokee. Even U.S sites are telling me there isnt one available. There are 2 LR90 snorkels on ebay, do you think I could adjust one to fit?

Mmmmm, i just been to pick up a new airfilter to replace my mud caked one and guess what! The standard 2.5TD was to small, but the one from the 4 litre petroll fitted perfect. COuld this mean a snorkal for a 4 litre Cherry could fit my airbox, as it seems to be the same!
