Anyone still use mud club ?
« on: January 18, 2013, 21:49:11 »
I used to come on mud club very frequently a couple of years ago, as soon as I posted something people would be replying back faster than you could refresh the page, now it seems as if no one is on here. I have only had one reply to a post earlier on in the week and I am the last person to write a reply to anything in the defender section all week WHERE IS EVERYONE ?

We are not entirely sure where they are but they will return eventually.

The numbers in the world of 4x4 have diminished greatly in past 2 years or so and the general concensus is that peeps just don't have the money to have a toy on the drive let alone tax/ins for a second car ,also who can afford £25/30 for pay and play days I don't think things  will pick up again until the economy does the same, some people I spoke to that were laning over xmas period said they can only go laning once a month now and that's probably the picture around the country,

We used to go out at least once a month inviting people to join us, had some great days out. Now we probably go once a quarter on the spur of the moment.

Look on here most days

I'm on here every day, usually more than once

I used to organise laning most weekends a few of years ago and also had dealings with the birthday bash weekends but there doesn't seem to be much going on now in this area unless you want to go pay and play which has never really excited me to be honest.

I must admit that since I got the RR I haven't really had the urge to go laning although I've had a few offers.

I think there are still quite a few of us that look at Mud Club and feel sad that someone decided that they didn't want to be involved any more and closed it down, after a bit of banter it was rescued by Thrasher and here we are, it just needs to be used and get the word spread again and I'm sure it will regain its popularity.

Hi All
I am also one of the many that was on MC a lot, but due to one thing and another i started to visit less and less. that also goes for the laning whereas we used to get out one a month we only hit the dirt about 3 times a year now.

We had a good day out on Friday, tried to get from Cardiff to Brecon but the A470 was closed due to the snow.
We ended up going over the mountain road at Hirwan very cold and desolate.

It does seem that people aren't as able to get out as much, so they aren't visiting the forums as much.

I am just as bad as the rest - hardly done much offroading of any sort. Even lost interest in competitions.

Now I just want to travel, but don't have the time or money :(

The sad truth is that folks have been hit hard by recession, rising fuel, tax and insurance costs... and the anti 4x4 community making life hard for all.

I for one was on here an awful lot back in the old mud club days, then it closed down for a bit and I found a local forum , Northants4x4 and the G4 owners club forum where I spend most of my time now as they are both relevant to me.

Sad but true, the community spirit seems to be lacking on MC at the moment, hopefull as previsouly mentioned once the economy picks up, so will the forum activity.

Perhaps it's a sign of the times Jim.  I remember your ID from before BTW.

I have to admit I'm on here far less often, I have kids and a demanding job now, I can't afford to run the V8 any more and don't remember the last time I got muddy.  I have to passenger if and when I get out.

There are far less 4x4 on the road, people work far harder for less money in real terms and stuff has got more expensive.  Lots of the "old guard" have drifted away or moved onto other things.

However, those of us still here are pleased to see you back

Im still around, I pop on here every now and again, currently im rebuilding a disco for expedition type stuff so Im not out laning or pay and playing.
my tastes in off roading have changed. before i had my old v8 and  did my best to brake it in competitions and laning. now I want to get out and explore.
once my new motor is up and running I will try and organise a few trips out.
I kind of miss the old mud club, but I do think this site will get busy again, it just needs time

In short? No I don't!

Absolutely nothing against mudclub, never had a problem or issue, however when the forum shut down for that period I moved onto other forums and that was that!

I still display the full bonnet size mudclub stickers on my bonnet, but that vehicle comes out about twice a year as its not road legal anymore, it did have an outing today as clerk of the course for my local trial.

I'm still very much involved with all things 4x4, but time and money is a definate issue these days.

But the good thing about old mates is they will all be pleased to see you again when you do finally return

Yes, it will take time, but I too think things will pick up slowly but steadily, very much a reflection of the country as a whole.  Fingers crossed for this year anyway.

And good luck to all those of us job-hunting.

Personally the long term downtime of this forum is what stopped me coming on here, it would appear that I am not alone in that.  Its a shame as this was probably the best of the ones that I frequented.  A few 4x4 related nightmares meant I had to find alternative, cheaper, hobbies.  Now that things have turned around though and I can look at getting another one, it would appear that it's not just this forum that is much slower, all of the main ones seem to have taken a bit of a dip recently.  Hopefully it is temporary issue and people will soon start using their 4x4s again, and as a result go looking for the community that seems to have died off a little.

If you want more members on here get those you know from the real world and tell them to join up. Cant be expecting old people to magically appear from other forums. PROMOTE PROMOTE PROMOTE and not just with the stickers.

Oh look someone else just magically appeared. Guess I was wrong.
