2.25 engine part number need please...
« on: May 08, 2012, 19:58:54 »

i am looking for a "thermostat housing upper" or "outlet pipe" or half dozen other names for the thing as per my post in the wanted section...

http://www.mud-club.com/index.php/topic,83199.0.html

I have found the part number for the older shape as being 527109, has anyone have any clue what the the part number is for the later type?

Cheers

My parts book only shows the 527109 part that you already know about.  No other options shown.....

Drawn a blank myself too, thanks for looking.

what I think I am going to do is machine face off the 19J housing upper to make it into just 5mm thick a 'spacer' to use between the TD main housing and old style series upper. That way I can fit the TD thermostat and all will be well.

Just checked the Haynes book of lies, and it states that a modified water outlet pipe is obtainable from your Leyland dealer.

Not sure there are many of those left :-?

lol

Strange thing is that of all the forum posts and blogs etc of people doing 2.25 to TD or 2.5 NA conversions where they retain the series rad they all just say swap the thermostat upper over so that you can use the series top hose to rad.
Now if they done that then they all must have had by sheer luck the later type upper else the TD thermostat is going to flop around inside and not be doing very much. Or they just removed the thermostat completely.  Or the used the entire series housing as well so they could use the old style skirted thermostat but that mean they wont be able to connect a heater.
I'd have thought at least one person doing the conversion would have mentioned issues.  It could be that they just hold the later thermostat in place with the gasket and a pray as I can't imagine everyone having what seems like hens teeth later upper.

If your still looking for one I may have what you need, just to verify, it is the top part of the housing with the water pipe attachment as i have a 2.25 from my 84 defender just sitting around doing nothing.

Cheers for offer but the one off the 2.5 engine has now (today) been machined down to make a 5mm thick spacer which I can now use with the old style series upper and effectively turn it into the later type so that I can use the later thermostat  :azn:
