300Tdi Soft Dash starting
« on: August 02, 2011, 21:59:21 »
The old girl did a strange thing this morning.

Ignition on, turned over and fired, sounded dead lumpy, blipped throttle and cut out. Did this 3 or 4 times then started as usual. Ran ok going to work, left parked up all day and fired up and ran as normal. Used again for a quick spin into village, started like a good 'un - however after turning key and starting, it sounded like something still spinning/vibrating til I blipped throttle. Turned off and started again to get it to do it again and..................
started/ran as normal

Any idea's gratefully received or is it a question of "it's running, leave it 'til it don't run'  :cheesy:

Probably need more to go on before someone can give decent suggestion.

Have a good looksee and listen under hood with engine running, have a good wiggle of pulleys and belt when engine off is if you can located the source of the non normal 'spinning/vibrating' but possible it's not associated with the other symptoms.

Do those models have EDC fly by wire pumps? Faulty temp sensor on top of head or dead timing advance servo on i/p pump can give poor cold starts on EDC 300tdi's.

Cheers Saffy.

I reckon she may be sucking in too much air. Going to have a closer look over weekend

Mine did this just before the MAF packed up.  Didn't think at the time but it would have run with the thing disconnected but when it let go I got towed home.

Hey Blues, good to hear from you!!!

Seems to be starting and running ok at the mo.

Gave it  a bit of a service (oil/filter/coolant flush/front bearings, discs and pads-went a bit bonkers really) and put a new diesel filter on and all seems to be fine.
