Windscreen wiper park switch

Anyone know how to wire up a 1981 Series 3 wiper motor so that when you turn off the wiper switch the wipers themselves return to park, at the moment they just stop wherever they are. I don't understand it as the wiring appears very simple, there appears to just be 3 wires, 1 for fast speed, 1 for slow speed and an earth. What have i missed?

Park is usually done via a contact strip inside the motor.  (on other cars - never looked inside S3 motor). Sometimes just needs cleaning up.

The earth wire is usually only a short bit that fixes onto the bulkhead near the motor via either a spade type connector or sometimes a bolt-on type. The wiring going to the wiper motor on a Series III should have a wire for slow speed, a wire for fast speed and also a constant positive with ignition on. this is so that the motor still has power going to it to enable the mechanism to run until it reaches the 'at-rest' position.

The three wires going to the motor should be brown/light green, red/light green and the last one just green. Out of these the one that is just green is the one that should have the 'ignition live' supply. The earth wire should be a short black one.

You need to replace the wiper park switch.

Personally I'd check first that the green wire has power down it when the ignition is on.

I had the same problem with mine and all it was down to was a lack of power along this wire. It needs power along this wire so that there is actually something to keep the motor going until it reaches the correct position. Otherwise it will just stop wherever you turn the switch off.
