A wha? Has mine got one?  If it's a manual control cable, any old heater/choke cable would probably do - (as on real minis)

Have to say I don't know what a thermostat cable is, but mini cables will only be a fiver or so, I'd have thought, or

Ah - AFAIK there's two types of gge used - one is connected with wire (& you can rewire with any similar wire) & the other is connected with a tube.  I fitted the tube type (proper name escapes me at the mo) as an add-on to my '63 2A, which didn't have one as standard.  Picked up whole setup from sender to gge at one of the shows for £20 (new).  You can convert that sort to electrical quite easily, but you need matching gge and sender unit

If it's a series 3, with the temp gauge in one of the dials (usually the same one as the fuel gauge) then it should be an electrical gauge with a single wire going from the back of the gauge, going to the the temp sender which is located just behind the thermostat housing on the drivers side of the engine. It can be repalced with any chunk of wire.

If it's an additional gauge then as mentioned above it could be an electrical one, in which case repair is the same as above, or a Capillary gauge which involves a very small tube going from the sender to the back of the gauge. I don't think these can be repaired easily.

However, neither of these have a cable inner and outer. The only thing that has such a cable is the thermostat valve which controls heat to the heater matrix. This is on top of th thermostat housing and the controls are on the side of the ash next to the drivers door.

That's what I thought was meant in the first place. I refer to it as the 'heater tap' and when my cable went I just wedged it in the open position and if I get too warm (as if, it's a bloody Series!!!) I just open the window.

 ;)

As far as the control cable for the direction of the air flow, does it really make that much difference? The efficiency of the heaters is crap at best.

Problem with them is that all the internal airways inside the dashboard rot away so you've got hot air disappearing through all the wrong places.

The heaters can be OK, but they need to work in tip top condition. Flush the heater matrix, ensure all air hoses are intact (no splits), clear the crap out of all the holes, rebuild everything making sure you seal all the gaps with a silicon and they can be pretty efficient.

Some have doubled up the matrix (there's room in the housing) and others have installed a Defender heater and matrix which is a little more effective.

Gday mate, you could try landrover orphanage or dunsfold or even craddocks. You could even look on ebay in the mini section as they had the same wire set up for the heater tap that came off the head.Mini spares london or birmingham mini centre spring to mind at the mo.
