« on: January 05, 2010, 15:27:11 »
ive replaced all filters and fluids , theres no smoke at all , it runs ok not too powerfull feels like a 2.5 really
mines a swb auto , ive put 70l or so in to the top and run it nearly dry and the trip says 300kms not mils but kms so that works out at roughly 12 mpg , everyone else gets around 25 that ive spoken to
i drive it fairly slow aswell this is mostly town driving. :'(

best is probably mid 20s

2.8 has more power but less mpg.

I run mine on Bio. I actually get better economy / performance. Bio is also a good detergent so if it is down to any poor fueling, it could help clear the lines and injectors.
Be prepared to go through a couple or three fuel filters though as it cleans out your tank.

No it's not the norm mate, in my LWB 2.8 I'm getting 25-27 mpg, daily driving on mixed speed roads.
My old SWB V6 running 33" simex's was down to 12-15 on the same daily trip.

I know this is an old topic but it doesn't say if the original topic starter managed to solve their fuel/MPG issue.

As no one has written this answer, I will.

If the fuel govening valve has been backed off for an MOT smog test and not wound back in again, that will cause you to use a hell of alot of fuel and have a crap MPG.

My 1st point of call would be to wind the govening screw in a 1/4 turn and go from there.

I run a 2.8TD Shogun with tuned pump, more turbo boost and in car boost adjuster with boost gauge and I am getting 30 to 35 MPG running on my home brew bio diesel and I drive it hard everyday on an urban cycle. Some motorway at 60/65mph and the rest at national speed limits giving it plenty of boot when at traffic lights.

All Diesel pumps are set to fuel at a set pressure and fuel delivery rate by the pump manafacture.

This setting is what is know as the best of both worlds in the trade.
Reasonable power and reasonable MPG plus MOT emission friendly.

If you give an engine more Turbo boost, you will obviously see more power but at the same time you will also get better MPG as the turbo is taking the load off of the engine.

If you then tune the diesel pump, you will find not only better low down power, but you only have to half throttle to make the same power as when you used to be at full throttle before you tuned the pump and turbo.

Yes full throttle can still be applied and no the turbo doesn't over boost the engine as a factory original turbo will only make 15psi of boost.

Plus there is the over pressure blow off valve in the rear of the intake manifold.

I have removed my factory fitted blow off valve as I run over 17psi of boost and the blow off valve exhuasts at 16psi.

A must NOTE: Remember to wind the govening screw out at least 1/4turn before MOT smoke test or it will fail.

If you need more info on pump tuning or making more turbo boost just ask. I am more than happy to help and even do the work if you are unsure.
