Rear Diff. / Final Drive
« on: July 21, 2009, 13:05:49 »
I have a leak from my rear diff, and as it's from the front I assume it's the prop shaft seal that's gone.

As there's no oil spots on the drive, I assume it isn't leaking horribly, but before I drive it any distance I want to check the oil level and top-up if necessary.

Having crawled underneath, there isn't a lot of room in about the plug and I don't have a tool to fit the square recess in the plug.

Does anyone happen to know what tool I need to get it undone? Is it 3/8" drive (I know it's bigger than 1/4" and smalled than 1/2"!)
Some say that this is just a random collection of letters, and that it can only be
understood by Top Gear's tame racing driver. All we know is, it's called The Sig.

Yes, it was the oil seal.

I've had it replaced (a right pig of a job!) and all seems well. Just need to wash the oil off the exhaust because it still smells  :ner:
