Tyre size differences on a shogun
« on: December 03, 2008, 17:39:53 »
From what i've seen on some other sites it may not be a big issue but thought i'd ask the people in the know :-k

My front tyre need replacing very soon, I'm going to change them all for 31's too but trying not to spend out loads right now.

my question is, what if anything may happen, IF i put the 2 of 31x10.5x15 's ive got on the rear and put the 2 really good 265/70/15 's on the front for a week or two, if its in 2wd all the time would it cause problems and if its ok in 2wd what would happen if i had to drive it on the ice etc in 4wd (with diff unlocked).

Probably sound like a cheapskate but i'm still hunting for a good pair of 31's for the front

Its still on the normal size tyres at the moment the ones that would stay are 265/70/15 at's and measure 29.5 inches and the 31's actuall measure 30.5inches.
Any advice / opinions would be great, thanks

2wd no problem...

4wd even with no locked diff you will damage or ruin your transfer box, possibly break a uj on your prop, so no no no. try and replace all 4 tyres with 31s at the same time, it will be cheaper in the long run..

Thanks for the tip shrekster, i've found some american goodyear tracker AT's in a 10-15 size which measure up the same in height and rolling diameter. Its very rarely put in 4wd unless on ice and never driven on tarmac in 4wd anyway so I will mix it for the moment and maybe get a full set of 33's and give it a little lift when chrimbo is done and dusted.
Thanks.
