Dont know about the 2.8 daihatsu engine, but I put the 2.5 n/a daihatsu engine in a series 3 lwb station wagon  a few years back,  the hardest bit was making a cable for accelrator, and making up a down pipe  everything else was a piece of cake  and I changed the daiahsu alternator for alucas one to do away with the external regulator on the daihatsu

used to sit happilly at 80 on the motorway  and still have some power left, and did 28mpg  aswell

hia i have just put one in mine series 3 you have to cut the footwell out on the passenger side so turbo fits the engines mounts on drivers side is like a wedge shape mount i removed that and it sits on the mount it was bolted to i bought new rubber mounts there the square ones there seem to fit better than the round ones i have used a flexable piece pipe for exhaust i also used the lucas alternator it easier to wire up i have not got servo breaks.it was very straight foward really i hope it goes well for you all the best tony

ps sorry no photos

I remembered what I did for my vacum pump

I got hold of a belt driven one off a peuguot 205 diesel and made up a bracket  to hold  and modified a twin  pulley  for it

came to fit clutch today found out it had a diahatsu  one fitted  and just a landrover plate so the flywheel didnt need drilling is this the norm?
found a voltage reg for the alt so going to try that when its in and runing if not i will try to get a 205 vac pump or simler to fit the engine has 2 spare pullys on the crank  anyway as iv removed a boged on land rover powersteering pump as i dont need that. have choped footwell just haveing got a new s3 clutch and needing half a diahatsu one its stoped play for today :'(

You might be able to fit a transit alt as they have vac pumps on the back and I think are self regulated so its kind of like a crossover between daihatsu and lucas - no extra belts needed.

Used to drive a daihatsu F50 and I remember having fun with the control box getting it to charge again.

well its in a driveing now few problems but most over come now first big one was  the flywheel hadent been drilled for the landy clutch and was still useing part dihatsu so havd it skimed and drilled for a landy one  next problem was the engine mounts where wrong the engine came out of a 90 so i had to get some  series ones for it next the bulkhead had to be choped to alow for the turbo and a downpipe made to fit (a work of art lol) water pipes made out of some car ones and a 90 one and its in and driveing took it for a run today and its 4th gear on most hills and ones here are steep things still to sort are
alt not conected
bulkhead still to plate back up
cluch seams to be draging a bit
other than that it flys lol but noisy

you do need a adapter plate, mounts, flywheel drilled but there is a very nice guy at chesterfield that sells these.
