Exhaust Bolts

Hiya

Im replacing the exhaust on my 90 at the moment, and the bolts have had it.

Are they anything special or just normal 13mm studs/nuts?

Not sure about anythign specifc as im not a 90 ownder, but in general there are a few opinions re nuts and bolts for exhausts.

Satndard mild steel tend to corrode very badly
Stainless get mixed reviews, I had two sets that were great (on racing car)  and 1 set that although did not corrode, it locked up solid.
I have also seen copper ones sold as special exhaust fittings which I have not tried yet but theory is good so will do that if I need them for my SIII

Whatever you use a very good dollop of copper assembly compound when fittingis highly recomended.

Hope this help but would like to hear other opinions.

I spoke to a local nut and bolt shop, and have got some high tensile ones.

I was more worried about vibrations breaking one after time...

Ill cover it in copper grease before I fit it - good idea that.

Stainless is over rated, plus if it's got too many precious metals in it the surrounding iron/steel will corrode instead.

Copper plated nuts do wiork well but over time the copper goes and you have.......a nut.

Cpper grease will be gone the first ime you start the engine (though I still use it).
