Disco 1 3.5v8 Electric Fans

Hi

I have a disco 1 3.5 v8, and I have fitted 2 electric fans in the front grille. rather than have them running all the time
I want to fit a stat so that they cut in and out as needed.

My question what is the ideal temperature for the fans to kick in at ?. I would imagine there must be an optimum running temp

As far as I'm aware the best way to set up the fans is to get engine to operating temp and turn thermostat so that the fans just come on, then turn the 'stat up a little so as the fans just turn off. This will ensure that the fans only come on if the temp raises above normal

I did exasctly that using the X Fan Switch hose housing by X-Eng.

Comes with the correct thermostatic switch and jubilee clips and good fitting & wiring instructions. I wired it with a three way switch for "on perm, off, on with thermo".

I'd highly recomend it!

The X-Eng one os good quality, or Wizard sells an adjustable, I've used one of these and as said, you want it to be off when you are driving and come on when you've been stood for a couple of minutes.  IIRC mine is set around 90 degrees on the top hose.

On blue I used a non-adjustable (sealed) one form Merlin motorsport.  To adjust it just move it down the radiator untill it comes on late enough.
