Tyre choice for 3rd Gen Surf
« on: December 24, 2007, 00:20:22 »
I am looking to get some mud terrains for the Surf not intrested in AT's as It is not my everyday transport but I do need to use it on road too so looking for a MT that can cut it on the tarmac.
BF Goodrich MT's seem like a good choice?

what the thinking out there?

I have been looking at the Kumho's and the BFG's and they don't seem to do 265/70 R16's but both do 235/85R16 120Q which are an inch bigger 3.7% will these fit a standard 3rd Gen? I am thinking they may be a bit skinny?
BF's come in 265/75 R16 about the same overall dia as the 235's,
???

what size should I be looking at, the Kumho's seem kinda limited in sizes!!

Where is the best place to buy?

You best bet is ask on http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk
there are some 3rd gen owners on there that have muds and will be able to advise better than us 2nd gen owners ........also there is a tyre section but if you want quick replies put it in the general section

If it helps i ran my Discovery on BFG Muds as did my mates (on their 90 and 110).

The tyres are very very good. handle well and make very little noise. I would only use them from now on.

THEY rub  :(

I have had to cut off a section of the front wheel arch as they rub in normal use, need to go and test now with some articulation, rub more on the right front than the left, rears look okjthough.

Very wet out so will get to test them both on and off road in the worst conditions.

Well on road is ok, not really any noisier than the road tyres and off they rock, did london lane and beggers (the leagal route) as well as a few others, had to use the winch to move a fallen tree and hand on a few others but an enjoyable afternoon, tha surf is not as good in the rough as my old lifted rangie but bags of torque and easy to drive.
