Got stuck in a flood today and my snorkel or air box seal failed and now the engine is U/S. how much is it going to cost me to get it sorted, I cant do it myself because harvest starts soon.

sorry to hear this. I would try and find a 2nd hand engine myself.

Have you tried turning the engine over since you stopped? I expect you have but If not take the glow plugs out, stand back and turn the engine over. this wil blow all the water out and you maybe lucky and it wont do any further damage.

engine sorted!took injectors off and glow plugs out and turned it over for about 2 hours untill all the water was out, drained the fuel out of the tank and put her all back together and she seems to be running fine, electrics are playing up due to her sitting in the water, will they dry out or do they all need to be replaced?

you lucky sod....i wish i'd been that lucky.....i am now trying to source a 200tdi engine!!!! the electrics should dry out on thier own i would imagine .....even quicker if you run the engine and get some heat generated!.......if you did hydraulically lock it i would advise changing the engine oil though.

when I drove mine through a deep ford the electrics, mainly with the heater were playing up for months afterwards. Stick a fan heater in the cab to help speed the drying process out.

You are a lucky swine!!  :D

it mite be running but i bet youve got a bent rod
infact ill put money onit
and yes they will still run and sometimes you wont even no that theres a bent rod until it overheats and you take the head off to descover 1 piston lower than the other
a locked diesel always bends something due to the compression of the engine

yup....i thought i'd been lucky when i did mine....i fitted the new turbo and started her up....all was fine until i revved it and had the ominous rumbling from the bottom end.......turned out the crank journals were scored like a ploughed field the big ends were shot and all 4 con rods were slightly misshapen!!! 1 new engine later and things are looking a bit better! I just have to fit the damn thing now!

it doesnt always bend stuff, if the engine was only ticking over at the time, you can get away with it.
personally i'd at the very least do a compression check. even if that was ok i'd probably pull the pistons out and check the bores/rods/big ends for damage

it only overheated cos his rad was blocked solid and that was 3 months after it locked up
it was running mint
but when he took the head off he found no 1 piston was 15mm lower
o and it was at tickover whilst setting the winch up that it locked

Ran 'Lumpy' looking at the engine it was obviously out of balance and was visibly moving side to side more than normal. Apart from that no other indicators it was cream crackered :?
