fan belt broken
« on: May 20, 2007, 22:06:23 »
i was driving my td5 disco ,when i heard a whine from the front of the car, then a screech then a twang and a bang .

the battery light came on, then the red ace light, and it started beeping at me.

i had no power steering and no servo on the brakes.

i pulled over as soon as i could and took a look.
what was left of the fan belt was wraped round the water pump/fan.
and the belt had melted and gone all over the pulleys.

the recovery guy said the idler pulley had seized.
the disco has just had its 94k service,on time not mileage.
should the pulley have been checked then?

whould it have caused any other damage?
the disco will be taken to my local dealers on monday,so i should find out how much damage its done.

but i thought i would ask ,just to put my mind at ease.
