i have a 200tdi disco which i want to turn into a greenlaner and tow vehicle. its got an ome 2" lift on it, already but whilst i sort out all the problem bits on it, i want to fiqure out in which direction i am heading. (and also put my order in for the tyres, as i believe there may be a back log of them)

option 1.

235 insa turbos on rr vogue alloys with wheel spacers

or

265 insa turbos on rr vogue alloys.

has to be rr vogue alloys as i have 11 of them sitting around and want to use them for something!

i want the car to have a square stance(similar to lrm project disco), i am going to fab some tubular bumpers up front and rear.

I know its not a ground breaking decision, but any advice and pics would help me make up my mind.

cheers

Okay, which Insa Turbos are you thinking of (there are four in the range).

Sticking my neck out, if it's a tow vehicle and laner, then don't fit the Special Tracks (Simex copy), they're too aggresive for laning and they're a not the best tyre to tow on, adding a whole chuck o' instability. Car, plus loaded trailer on tyres with that much knobble - not for me.

I wouldn't want to tow with the the Sahara (Geolander MT copy) either, again, I think they're a little too unstable on tarmac for towing.

Which leaves you with the Dakar (BFG MT copy) and the Mountain (Scorpion AT copy?). In original form, both work well as tow tyres (but even the MTs require a modicum of respect if it's wet), both will work for laning tyres.

HTH
Cheers

i towed my caravan all the way to scotland from the south coast with a set of sahara's fitted. i must say that on my truck they were brilliant. no wander and very little noise for a mud tyre    i now have 265 machos fitted and they are the same....nice n quite and handle well while towing

just my opinion  :D
cheers

A lot of it depends on what tyre is underneath on the remoulds though.  I find them very stiff, someone siad a lot of remoulds are based on truck tyres rather than 4x4 tyres?

sorry i should have put special track on the description.

i really like the specials and anacodas as well. But it will 50:50 be greenlaner and tow vehicle so i need to be sensable (unfortunately)

suggs have you ever towed on specials??

if you could recommend a cheap(remold) tyre for the purpose then please suggest

I've just bought a set of 235/70 Insa turbo sahara's...

not used them yet, but they look really mean on black disco steels....

The tyre fitters didn't balance them as they reckoned they would have to put 400G of lead on them!!!

am doing a weekend on salisbury plain over easter, so they should get a good workout!!
