24 spline diff
« on: February 26, 2007, 20:45:34 »
It sound like the bearings have gone in my diff.  Im having problems getting another one.  If the bearings have gone what else would i need to repair it.  It looks like this is my only option, as i cannot afford to have it off the road more than a day, so I need to have all the right parts first time.

Cheers in advance.

All the bearings or just the pinion bearing?

If it's the pinion bearing then you will need the oil seal that is in front of that bearing as well. Also you may need to reset the 'pinion height'. This is the distance from the pinion gear to the crown wheel. Time consumming but not actually that difficult. If you have a workshop manual, then check the procedure there....easier than trying to describe it here :)

its getting hold of the shims that is the [!Expletive Deleted!]
doing the high/ backlash is easy peasy, i dont use a guage, i just use touch
you can tell if its right
to far away....theres a s*** load of play (backlash)
to close .... its real notchy as you turn the pinon and there no backlash
so its a balance really
