Got approx 500 quid to spend on a new PC, but which one to get. Have a works laptop and PDA. Use the internet a reasonable amount, and would like it for the MP3 player, Do I go to Dell or anywhere else?

I would be inclined to agree wiht this.

Depending on your use you want to be aiming for an Intel Core2Duo E6300 (entry level chip but by god it flies!) 1Gb DDr2 Ram, 200Gb Hdd etc etc.

Dont be sucked into marketing hype, and avoid places like PC world, full of lieing cheating salesmen!

Or get someone else to do it and guarantee that it all works

For general Internet use, etc, pretty much any one would do. If it was my money, I would want at least 1Gb of memory, a 17" flat screen, at least 80Gb hard disk and the best processor the money left over would buy!

Dell have an Outlet store on ebay which sells returned/refurbished PCs - you can get a good bargain that way.

There's another firm that sells a mix of second hand, failed orders etc. from Dell. I think it's ITCsales.co.uk and I have used them a few times.

A pal got a bargain Compaq from PC World £189 for Pentium something or other 160 gig disc, 1 gig ram, no screen or keyboard and XP Home but what a price.

I couldn't build a PC for the money Dell sell them but then they stuff you on delivery.
