I have a td5 intercooler to fit into my 200 tdi disco.
I have phoned the insurance company - Adrian Flux, and they want to know what increase in bhp using this intercooler will give.
Assume there are no other mods what increase in bhp would you estimate?

No change without mods to FIP (or at the most a few bhp)...

As mentioned on another forum just tell them its a standard LR part off a later LR Discovery.

I would be inclined not to state any figures to them, merely to state that it is Land Rover part from another vehicle in the range.  Surely its up to them to calculate the risks based on facts not guess work.  

When I insure my racer I list all the modifiactions (or at least all that I can remember), but don't try and figure out what benefit fibreglass doors or uprated brakes would have.

As Porny states without fuelling changes the performance benefit will be minimal anyway.

I had the same question when I bought a bigger intercooler for SWMBO.  If you don't tell them they won't quote you, just guess at no more than 10bhp.

I think that would put me off - any figure is just conjecture if its not backed up with a dyno or rolling road run!

It may make no difference at all or on an old engine it may allow it just to make standard power again.  Most manufacturers power figures are overstated anyway.

Sounds like something else they can quibble with in the event of a claim.  I've got the racer insured with Snowball and all I need to do is list the modifications and TBH they don't bat an eyelid! :D

dunno if it helps but when i had my jeremy fearn kit fitted to my 200tdi
power went upto 143bhp

this was supported by a rollign road report which i supplied to the insurance company along with the engineers report

if i were you i'd make sure the insurance know every last detail cos if you have a prang they'll try anythign they can not to pay out

i had my insurance cancelled by sureterm cos they wouldn't allow me to have a winch AND a winch bumper fitted to the front of the disco at the same time
but i could have either/or without any probs

there was a thread about this sometime ago

Thats just it I wonna be straight with the insurance company.
No piont losing a claim if one arises just because you hadn't declared something to them is there?
