Guys, I have a massive problem I can't even begin to fathom out!!!!

I'll set the scene...

1982 Bobtail Rangie fitted in January with 5 speed box and new clutch, is used off road and is used under water (with breathers)

Here is the problem....

leave it over night....no problem whatsoever

leave it 9 hours outside work in the sun...CLUTCH STICKS TO FLYWHEEL!!! :evil:  :evil:  :evil:  :evil:  :evil:  :evil:

If I fire it up at 10.00 in the morning in the sun....doesn't happen then........or at tea time

If I miss that break and fire it up mid day.....doean't happen then....or at tea time.

leave it all day, and it takes me 10 minutes of driving around with no clutch (fire up in gear and drive about for a bit without clutch!) to free it off....

Once it releases, it's fine :shock:  :(  :cry:  :oops:  :x  :evil:  :twisted:

Why it doesn't do it after being stood all weekend in the damp is totally beyond me

Not sure whats causing it but it sounds like large dismantle/rebuild job with the engine out (not what you wanted to hear).

Either that or drive it more often.

Over what period of time are we talking.  Sounds like clutch plates are damp and rusting onto flywheel.

Drive about and do lots of gear changes too dry out.  Either take for a long run to do same.  (and don't forget to fit wadeing plug next time you go swimming)

Hi Garth, period of time is that I fire it up at 7.00 in the morning and drive it to work 5 miles away.....

At 5.00pm after standing in the sun, the plate is stuck to the flywheel.

If I break up the day somehow, even just pressing the clutch pedal once...it doesn't happen....

It stands then from about 5.30 pm to 7.00 am then doesn't do it !!

 :shock:  :shock:  :shock:

And it doesn't do it if it's cloudy either, and teh last time it saw water was about three weeks ago...used every day since :cry:  :shock:  :twisted:  :evil:  :D  :shock:  :)  :(  :?

For what effort it takes it may be worth changing the clutch fluid? Boiling is usually in brakes and causes fade but if there is moisture there you just never know?

That's always one of the first things to do, but I'd have thought the problem would be worse whilst driving as the car heats up even more.

You havn't got an oil leak or something have you?  other than that I'd suggest giving the clutch abit more grief to get the surface glazed over, it doesn't sound like you use it enough.  Try setting off in second a few times but make sure it cools down before you park it.

Does your commute involve a lot of traffic?

Fluid is changed due to a leaking slave cylinder so I have ruled that bit out but also, it stopped doing it last week.

It hadn't been in water for quite while at that point...until Sunday that was, and lo and behold, yesterday spinner stuck to flywheel again so I went back under it...not entirely sure but I think my wading plug is in permanent (not sure where it fits and the bellhousing is full of poo on teh outside but there is definitely no holes under there)..is it possible mt bellhousing is full of wet poo which causes this every time I wade...or are they sealed once the plug is in there anyway??

Had a white shirt on last night so didn't pursue it too much :lol:  !!

Yes RRB...commute is a bit stop start, but not far... but it has never stuck overnight, only through the day :?

The Wading plug is (lying underneath legs sticking out the front facing skywards) on the LH side of the mating face of the bell housing to engine right at the bottom. Its a Square male plug approx 13mm spanner size and there is a threaded hole next to it to store it in when not wading.  It should only be fitted when playing in water or runny mud.  If in permanently all the dust off clutch plates gathers inside bell-housing and also keeps damp in which will cause plate to stick to flywheel and also reduce life expectancy of clutch release bearing and pressure plate
