Father-in- Law Fancies A FreeLander

My father-in-law has decided he wants a FreeLander instead of his '52' Mondeo LX.
At a guess, as we haven't discussed it fully yet, he'll want a 5-door.
It'll probably have to be a diesel as he's also a Yorkshireman & a caravanner.

So, do any forummers near Wakefield, Pontefact or south Leeds have one?
I'd rather get an honest opinion from an owner than listen to the saleman at whatever garage.
If anyone does have one, might they be willing (at a mutually agreeable time/venue) to take him for a spin in it?

I did take a test drive in one about 2 yrs ago and was very impressed with the ride etc on road. i never tried it off road. WhenI was looking for an off road vehicle last year, I again tried the freelander but was disappointed at the redesign of the dashboard. It seemed to be far too low and gave a strange view from the front, My wife said the same too.

Hope he likes what he sees, they are obviously not everyones cup of tea :D

Post some piccies if hes does get one and let us know what he thinks :)

I'd love to help, as an avid lover and owner of 2 Freelanders but I lives down in God's World - Gloucestershire :lol:  :lol:
My first Freelander was a petrol K series and it didn't seem to be up to the hard work that I do in my job. After a big mistake (BMW) went to local LR dealer and part-exchanged for a 2.0 Tdi Freelander (W) 3 door and it's so much better than the first Freebie. I opted out of Company Cars 2 years ago and it pays for itself over and over. Off road, they have limitations i.e. no articulation, ground clearance a bit lacking and no second box.  But that doesn't stop me doing green lanes and other stupid things in it :shock:
I did test drive the new TD4 which did seem slightly quicker off the mark than my Tdi but it has had some bad press which put me off.  My Tdi has NEVER let me down and hasn't needed any repairs.  Servicing is every 12000 miles and parts are readily available and cheap. Not much to rust on body work as Freebies are mainly aluminium and fibre glass!!

don't ever buy a petrol, and get rid of b4 done over 40,000 miles as thats when things start going wrong ......... enough said

will have to say that the td4 loan car hasn't been too bad of a drive and a ndfew people we have met camping have said there diesel tow ok ....  a few of them have been pretty close to the max kerb weight with just the van on the back and no luggage.

so if brand new and going to get rid of after 3 years and you can put up with silly service prices and idiot sales people. should be ok
