Hi All

Carrying out bob tail to my new toy and was wondering if anyone has removed the self levelling damper from there Rangie or has comments either way (pro's/cons) :?:

For an off-road toy, especially a manx, do what the Police did. Unbolt it and use it as a handy doorstop or paperweight.

Or mail it to someone you dislike.

.....or who does a lot of towing!

Was one of the first things I chopped off my bobtail. Its just some extra weight thats not really required.

how much you lifted by Barmy? is it all suspension or a bit of suspension and bit of body?

Was susposed to be 2'' but they are progressive springs off a disco & have got the rears on front & front on rear due to the amont of wieght in the 3.8 perkings, winch & bumper made from 4'' steel girder :shock: ,

Would love someont to measure from there axle to chassis so i could compare the difference :roll:

92 RRC 3.9 efi with 3" scorpian racing springs and armstong dampers

From the o/s front egde of the front axle right where the bell of the diff meets 7 1/2" to the chassis rail vertiacaly above it

From the o/s rear edge of the rear axle right where the bell of the diff meets 8" to the chassis rail vertically above it

Both measurements are to the rail not the bump stop and I have my leveling unit still on.

Also I put the springs in the wrong way around 1st going off other cars I have worked on the long ones had always been at the front and doing this put my top bar or my bull bar at elbow height just measureed that down from my elbow now and its 3" lower.

If you lift the car the self-leveler is useless. If you bobtail it it's pretty much the same as the weight will be different. Either way, bin it, save the weight and get a little extra droop. Be careful of prop angles and brake lines though!

Been thinking of doing this myself, would it be advisable to fit a chain or something to prevent damage to the trailing arms next time i get airbourne!

Disco never had them, so I don't think so, the dampers should stop the axle falling too far from the body, they have internal stops for the purpose.
