I have a bog standard 300tdi at the moment.  :roll:

I want to go green laning and do not have a tow bar and ideally do not want to put one on. What and how can I fix a tow ball or something to assist in pulling me out of the mud!!?? Its inevitable I know :wink:

hi john i  have got a front set of bolt on recovery brackets for the main chassis rail there yours for 35 quid have to check postage as they weigh a bit but im sure that would only be a few more beer tokens let me know if you would like them they should fit ok mine is a 200tdi never been on i payed 45 i think from southdown they also have hig-lift jack points for the rear i suggest a good set of jake rings and get rid of them crap standard fitted rings as there not very strong regards colin

How about a pair of Jate Rings,  or two pairs if you do the front as well.

They fit where the tie-down rings are on the chassis, either side of the fuel tank. You can always connect a rope to them before you go off road and that saves crawling around in the mud trying to attach the rope when you do get stuck.  :wink:

You can get the Jate Rings from the likes of Paddock Spares and they cost about £12 + vat.

seconded - pair of jate rings will do the business - if you can afford as well 2 d-shackles 3-tonne type tested as a minimum (it will be cast intot he shackle), a towing bridle two then fix the two ends to the rear two jate rings ready for action :-)

I've got a pair of David Bowyers 'Jack-Mates' on the front (same as yours 'colintandy)

Thanks for all the advice....I think its Paddocks for the Jate rings as a temp measure.

I am planning to put on a steering guard eventually, one with tow and jacking points.  So Colin thanks for the offer but I think you have got 2 buyers so over to you.

I got the Paddocks steering guard for the front, about 75 quid IIRC. Very solid piece of kit, I just had to buy a hi-lift once I'd got that fitted :) Have standard towbar at the back, but have modified it by chopping the lower 40mm off. It's much better now, hardly drags at all whereas it was regularly used as a plough before !

Seen the recovery brackets on Mill Services web site. They look like a good bit of kit.

I did consider a steering guard with built in eyes but figurd it was too pricey, should have considered the additional cost of buying eyes at a leater date....
