Quote from: "Bush Tucker Man"

Taken on Ramsden Lane on Sunday afternoon (wrongly called Rakes Road by me elsewhere)
A nice big rock step just around the corner made me decide not to go any further, I was by myself & had only seen hikers & a couple of bikers.

The hikers acknowledged the Byway status & were happy to share

Richard, I know this lane very well. Have you been up there recently? Someone ( I presume the council) has put a load of tarmac down. About 30 yards lower down from where your picture is taken. Is it absolutely definately a byway? The rock step you mention BTW is a killer when you come the other way and don't know it's there!!  The lane gets very entertaining further up. Quite deep wash outs and well rutted. Not the place you want to try taking a freelander. If you get right up onto the top(I'm presuming you haven't been up) there's a bit of an off road trials type area. Great in the summer. Winter must see about four feet of water in the centre where the ground is lowest! The guy in the house near where your picture was taken must get mighty p*ssed off with the ammount of 4X4's going by at all times of day and night.
Cheers, Karl..

Hi Richard,

Did you happen to get a snap of it as I would love to see what they look like!!

Garry.

Sorry, no I didn't, but they're finished in 'Atlantis Blue', with white leather (if I remember correctly), Sat-nav option, mega stereo, limited edition plaque.

It was in traffic in Wakefield, and as I reached for the camera it started flowing again, I'll keep looking for it though.

Karloss; Been going up there for years, Originally on the mountain bikes (or cyclo-cross bike) with the Dogs, then from about '94 with a Landie.
The road around the bottom has driveable status right from Holme-Moss to re-joinng tarmac & descending to Holme-Bridge.
As far as I'm aware Ramsden Lane is 'vehicular legal', the keen looking walkers I encountered agreed that it was.
The last time I drove it completely it was getting a bit dicey for a single vehicle.
The next stretch has nice views, Cartworth Moor, sorry no map ref to hand, but it shadows the valley road for quite a distance.

Big Rich, get him on here if he;s got the 'net, or at least get a picture for this page.

The 'top lane' I mention is pictured in 'Yorkshire Scenes 2', well a landmark on the lane is; the old farm.

Also have a look at Cheesgate Nab/Scaleygate in 'My Old Land Rovers' (Full Twist) I hear from an old mountain biking buddy that it's in a quite a state now?

Is this the next stretch that causes concern Karloss?
Sorry for quality, but it was taken with my old Nikon (with a very grubby lens) & the resultant print was put through a (temperamental) scanner.

Same date as the previous photo (22.2.04)

Looking at the photo Richard I would say that you are just coming around the bend having covered the worst already just above the rock step? Nice little lane that one. It was the first lane I ever drove and at the time seemed like real hard core off roading!  The (much tamer) lane that runs around the bottom seemed like quite a rough one 'till  I saw someone drive it in a Fiesta! Helped the police drag a stolen Astra off there too.
How do I get to look at these "webshots" of yours. Everyone else seems to go off looking and I'm starting to feel left out.

Yes & I started it as well :D

Don't worry I'll turn it back soon.

Sorry I don't have the OS map available at the moment for Scaleygate, it's actually closer to Jackson Bridge.
Will do map-ref tomorrow at some point.

Karloss, the lane in question (Scaleygate) is located on OS sheet 110 between 177 071 & 170 071 approximately.

If I discern your avatar correctly, is your 90 brown? If so & just out of curiosity you weren't on Park Road* 3 week ago on Sunday with a trailer full of bark chippings (I think it was bark)

*Side of the wood/DIY shop & it's the street that rejoins Wakefield Road where the 'grassy loop' is

I've just got it set in my mind that it was you for some reason

Any way back to the thread topic.
I saw another 50th earlier this evening.
We'd gone to the 'Rythre Arms' at Ryther (that's the correct spelling of pub) which is sort of between Tadcaster & Cawood for dinner.

I challenge SWMBO (who loves Steak) to eat their Big One, which is a 78ounce(! !) T-Bone.
She wouldn't.
http://www.rythrearms.co.uk/

Any way we came out at about 21:25 (went in at 20:00) & there was a 50th Disco in the car-park it wasn't there when we entered. It looked like the owner attended the same valeting course as me :D (it's Yorkshire, so it rains)
It was registered as 'S860 DWU'

That indeed is someone else! There are two 90's in the village that colour and mine is the other one.  They are even similar reg no's. His is a bit more "pretty" than mine. Bits of chrome and such like. You can tell mine a mile off. Dirty, 2" lift, dirty, home made snorkel, dirty, high lift jack above the back door, dirty, 9" spotlights, dirty. It's a difficult thing to miss! 8)

Saw another one last night as we were in traffic on Doncaster Road (one of the main arterial roads into Wakefield from the south) going to the cinema to see 'Shrek 2'

This one was a 'T' plate, not seen one on that before. Sadly it as travelling in the opposite direction, it must have been in storage, or the owner 'really, really' wanted one & LR searched for it

I'm considering starting a page on my 'WebShots' for any 50th's that I see.
Mindst you it'll have to be a big page as a 1,000 were built.
It'd take ages to compile as well :D

By The Way; Shrek was great.
One of the funniest (& satirical) films I've seen since the first one

Go & see it, childrena are not obligatory - they probably won't get all the referances to other films in it
