URGENT HELP JEEP QUESTION

Please see image, does anybody know if the ''cut'' in the pas pulley wheel should be there or not :?: ,  vehicle is a jeep cherrokee 3.7 v8 petrol.

Never seen anything like that on a Jeep before

Could I suggest you phone a dealers and ask the service dept?

I can't think of a reason it would be there...  maybe some genius decided to cut the belt off at some point

Doesn't look right.  And I doubt any dealers know - the Service dept manager of the one near us rang me today to see if I could explain to his guys how to take a front bumper off!!

Sorry to disagree with everyone else, but the 'cut' in the pully is normal.  It's from the manufacture of hte thing.  As long as there's nothing actually seperating, it should be fine.  I've see that on several.
If it worries you, stop and ask the parts man to see a new one and compare!

I have a 1995 cherokee 4 litre straight 6, my pully has the same cut, i think its normal, my friend used to work for a jeep main dealer and he seems to think it shud b like that tho he doesn't see the purpose.
