injector pump swap

can an early model injector pump (the 1 without the electrics) be fitted to a late model engine (with edc) on a 300tdi? i ask as i want to run on veg oil but understand that the ecu has issues with this. the disco is currently running on heated vegoil and has done for the last 20,000 miles (a little grumpy but nothing major). its now packed up and i was wondering what is the best option. Reconditioned engine but an early model 300tdi, or a later reconditioned engine with an injector pump swap. will either engine have to come from an auto donor as mine is automatic or can a manual engine fit into an auto gearbox. thx

Hi Mate
All 300TDi base engines are the same Manual or Auto early or late, the only differences are the bits that bolt on, so in answer to your question you could use a early or late manual or auto engine, it would be just a case of swapping the bell housing over for the gearbox fitment requirement, the early injection pump just requires a ignition live to it to make it run, & depending on the year of your automatic it may need a throttle cable fitting to your car due to it may be fly by wire.
I hope this helps

thx for the reply. mine is 'fly by wire' (edc i think) and so i require an early injector pump. Looks like i need the cable as well. will any other things like the alarm immobiliser or electrics be affected by an engine swop especially if its an earlier type engine? thx

Hi ive converted a few from EDC to normal pump, you need a throttle cable and pedal, the loom and ECU can be disconectted and binned, or ebayed lol, then take an ignition live from the fuse box and fuse it, make sure its live while cranking, job done no more EDC, you also need a an early disco kick down linkage on the pump, early disco autos have all the parts needed, just make sure you adjust the kick down cable, cant remember the measurment, its in rave, good luck
