Shifter is via cabel so it can move about to suite. Transfer box might be in a different place though but you can keep the one you have.
AFAIK the Disco gearboxs have longer bellhousings and V8s longer again.
You NEED to get hold of a TDi auto though, the torque converter is different, the gearchanges all happen at lower revs and a TDi auto box will be in better nick for the same mileage.
Once you have a box you can measure things to find out what needs moving. You'll need to fit a kickdown cable to the top of the fuel pump,

Is there a special bracket on the 200 tdi pump for this?
is this where the kick down cable is normally fitted
?

you'll find that the autobox is massive, and you will need to move the engine forwards
im running a td5auto in my 90 comp truck and it doesnt leave much room, and ive moved the gearbox back 2 inches.....how ever i wouldnt reccomend this for normal offroad use.
your into custom props ect ect and its a whole can of worms on a 90.
sit the t/box where it normally sits and everything else just has to go where it does.
make sure you fit a kin big oil cooler, auto's dont like hot oil.
keep everything clean, and dont let any debris enter any oil pipe as it'll destroy the very tiny thrust bearings in a matter of miles.
just ask if you want any more info....or ask xtreamteam ( mike ) as he converted his 200 90 to auto, but i think he used a hybrid hp22/24 box which is pretty bombproof.
im just in the middle of building one as and when i get 5 mins spare.

I agree with the above I fitted a 4.2 rangie lump with auto box into my def 90, mounted the g/box in the same place as original and made everything else to suit , no modded props etc
