just puting a p38 bmw 2.5dt back together does it have a spigot bearing or not? as the new engine came out of a 3 sieres bm and didnt get the old engine with it so i have no idea if it does or not

hi, i cant help you with the spigot bearing, but would be interested to know if the engine and gear box mate up ok, as iv been told that altho they are the same engine, the 7 series engine wont fit the P38  gearbox

I was told the same thing when i was looking for an engine for a p38 i bought. The same engine is also fitted to vauxhall omega's aswell as the bmw's but apparently neither of them will fit a p38.

is there any specific reason why or if they don't match i.e different moulding of the block etc?

If it's the same engine as a 525 then you have to change the sump and oil drainer, i'll ask around and get back

I was told not all of them have electronic pumps or crank sensors???

 whats the sump like on the 7 series as the P38 gear box bolts on to the sump aswell as the block

sump , flywheel , exhaust manifold are different apart from a few little brackets its the same! £295 i paid for the new engine thought that was reasonable enough came with alt , pas pump and ip pump! most scrapers wanted around £600 upwards

thats a cheap engine, how are you getting on with it? mine got finished off  this morning and the wife is very happy to have it back

plenty of moaning later by the missus and the engines gone in! and its only 11.30pm i haven't swapped the diesel pump yet will it run with the pump what come with the engine or do i have to change it over for the pump on the old engine they look roughly the same?

change it for one off ya old engine as im sure injector pump is coded so if u dont change it you may need to plug in it into computer an just out of intrest does that mean u will have a spare injector pump if so how much would u be lookin for it

i have the pump witch came with the new engine as its still fitted to the engine i was gona see if it would fire up with that pump in first! have tryed it and no luck so am going to have to swap it for the old one!
